Can you introduce yourself briefly, what’s your name, where are you from, where do you live?
Hello! I am Paranjay, a motoring writer and photographer, currently based in India.
What vehicle(s) do you drive/own these days?
Unless I’m doing a travel story or a drive review, it’s a Grande Punto diesel.
What does this or these vehicles mean to you?
Everything. My car means the world to me. It gives meaning to motoring. It’s not perfect and it’s far from the fastest/most-driver-orientated, but it’s my preferred travel partner on long drives. And that I think makes it more special.
What is the earliest automotive memory you have? How did your passion start?
I do vaguely recall that my parents, on learning that I was interested in cars, started pencil-sketching for me. Early toys (especially a very nice Apek-made Kamaz truck) further added to my love for cars.
Where did you grow up? What’s your relationship with nature like?
In India. Inherently we are surrounded by nature — in some way despite the overdose of concrete and metal around us.We wouldn’t be here without nature. There’s no alternative to it, we can’t afford to harm it, and most importantly, we ought to be responsible. Or at least that’s what I try to do.
How do you today reconcile your passion for the automotive with your respect for nature?
Driving is a privilege. And I try to treat it like that. I want each of my drives to be meaningful and enjoyable. So I try to drive for leisure, and take public transport for the boring commutes. Trains are still a good choice!
Do you have any tips to share with other enthusiasts in order to reduce our impact on nature?
I don’t want to sound preachy but I think if it’s possible more trackdays, leisure drives and less commutes will be ideal. But honestly that can’t work for everyone. Using your existing car to the fullest and not giving in to the urge of buying the newest car is bound to have a better effect than anything else.
If a fellow enthusiast visited your region, what nature themed activities or exciting driving experiences would you recommend?
Oh there’s a lot to enjoy and explore here. Send me a DM on my Instagram (@herr_joy) and I’ll help you plan.
